Fancy Dress Fanatics featured in Party Party Magazine

We were really pleased to be contacted by industry magazine, Party Party, to comment on their articles and be included in their 'Party Patter' section, where they speak to retailers about their take on the industry at present, and comment on events and news in the industry.

We appeared in several places in the magazine, both features on our business, and to comment on some of their articles which was fantastic!

The magazine also featured out recent visit to 10 Downing Street in their latest industry news section which we were really chuffed with. It was great to find others in the industry are so interested in what we're doing.

Another batch of great Hire costumes added to the collection!

We're always adding more costumes to our Hire collection, and we've just done a photoshoot so we can add the latest ones to the website!

In the last couple of months, we've added another 50 costumes to our hire collection, many of which we photographed in this shoot. This takes our total hire costumes up to over 150 costumes and growing.

Some of our new additions include:

Wizard of OZ costumes
Snow White and the Evil Queen
Roman Togas for men and women
1960's and 70's outfits
Cruella DeVil
Mad Hatter and Queen of Hearts
Abraham Lincoln
Regency/Jane Austin dress
Men's Ringmasters
Monks
and many more

We've got lots more already being made, with a special focus on World Book Day costumes ready for March, some more well known characters and definitely some more 1920's outfits, but this time for the boys! We're also sourcing more animal costumes, as well as authentic outfits, including uniforms and 60's and 70's.

We'll be doing another photoshoot as soon as we can squeeze one in after New Year. We're often looking for volunteer models for our photoshoots, particularly ladies size 14-20 and we'll soon be adding Children's costumes to the collection which will also need photographing. So if you're interested in getting involved, let us know!

Fancy Dress Fanatics to Sponser Halloween themed Ashton Court RUN10K

We're very happy and excited to be sponsoring the annual  Ashton Court RUN10K which this year takes place on Saturday 26th October and has a Halloween theme!

As part of our sponsorship, we have supplied a number of costumes to the organisers of the event - which appeared in their promotional photo shoot for the Bristol Post.

The race usually attracts up to 2,000 runners, and this year, to add a bit of fun, everyone's encouraged to get dressed up, whether they're running or supporting the runners.

Those taking part help to raise thousands of pounds for the race's official charity, Cancer Research UK, which we're also very keen on helping with. Cancer Research UK is such an important charity and it's something that inevitably effects us all. We're just pleased to be involved and helping in any way to raise money for such a fantastic cause and very honoured to be invited to help!

To help the runners get dressed up, we'll also be offering them a 10% discount in our shop for Fancy Dress for the run and will have a stall at the event selling last minute fancy dress costumes and accessories.

New hire costumes ready for Halloween!

We're nearly there - the biggest night of the year for Fancy Dress, and as it's our first one, we couldn't be more excited!

We've been busy adding some more Halloweeny costumes to our hire collection ready for the spooky season and naturally, that meant another photoshoot!

And just to get ourselves in the mood, we got a brilliant Make Up Artist, Nora Morehead Calver (check out her website here), along to help out along with her assistant. Her make-up was excellent, and we'd highly recommend her to anyone.

But fret not, if you can't afford a pro to do your make up (and your skills are as bad as mine!!!) we have some brilliant kits in stock ready for Halloween, including set-by-step Zombie Kits,
Zipper kits and VERY realistic 3D Temporary Tattoos by Tinsley Transfers. Just over here from America and REALLY realistic, with the added bonus of only taking 30 seconds to put on. Easy peasy and shockingly good!

We also added a few bits and pieces to our normal costumes, just to turn them into something for Halloween so we have more to choose from, turning Ringmasters into Devils, and Victorians into Vampires!

Not long to go now.... can't wait!!!

Bishopston Mum reviews us in her fantastic blog!

Popular local blogger, 'Bishopston Mum' has written a feature review of our business. We're chuffed to bits with her kind words about us, and as readers of the blog ourselves, very proud to be included.

The blog, written by a local mum, is read by hundreds of locals and has nearly 3.5K follows on twitter, and reviews local businesses and events. She also has a regular feature in the community magazine Bishopston Voice.

The blog concentrates on local events and runs a regular feature on businesses in the area, as part of the Bristol Shop Local campaign, which is brilliant. It celebrates some of the fantastic businesses in the local area, and helps raise awareness of the great resource we have here on our doorstep. With the threat of supermarket chains and internet sales being able to beat most prices on the high street (thanks to thier reduced overheads), the survival of small, independent businesses is big news and close to the hearts of many local communities.

If you'd like to read the blog about Fancy Dress fanatics on Bishopston Mum, click here or visit www.bishopstonmum.com to read her fantastic (and useful) blog posts. a must for those with kids!

An Invitation to 10 Downing Street for Fancy Dress Fanatics

In early September we received a most unusual invitation - to go the 10 Downing Street for a reception with Prime Minister David Cameron to celebrate the success of the Government's Start Up Loans scheme and showcase some of the recipients of the loan and what they have achieved with it.

Out of over 8,000 loan recipients through the Start Up Loans Company (plus others who have received funding through other routes, such as the NEA (New Enterprise Allowance), 70 of us were picked to attend the reception, hosted at No 10. Other faces making an appearance included Dragon's Den star James Caan (who is Chairman of the start Up Loans company) and Dragon's Den success story Levi Roots. Plus some others I probably didn't recognise.

The best way I can describe the event was 'Surreal'. Walking through the gates to Downing Street past the tourists clicking their cameras at the famous landmark was bizarre to start with, but when it got really strange was at the front door! Stood with others who were on the invite list, we asked the Policeman (who is probably the happiest Policeman I've ever met!) what we do. Do we wait outside to meet someone? Is there anywhere special we should wait? The answer.... just knock at the door. As though it was the most normal thing in the world to knock at the iconic 10 Downing Street door and walk in. and it really was that simple.

We were made to check in our phones and any camera equipment (although I later saw many hadn't and were using iPads to take pictures. At times like this I regret always doing what I'm told!). The reception was held in a room upstairs with canapes and drinks. We all had an opportunity to chat to each other about what we did with the loans and how our businesses were going and it was great to speak to others who had done the same as I had, and find out about their challenges in getting started. I got talking to a guy called Frazer who had started a business called 'Mirrors By Design', and his business sounded fantastic.

When David Cameron came in, he greeted a few of us on his way through, then stood on a stage to make a speech about how young entrepreneurs are the future. It was a really good speech and came across very heartfelt and genuine. During the speech, I realised I was stood just behind James Caan (who actually accidentally stepped on the tip of my shoe - bit exciting!). After the speech Frazer and I spoke to James Caan for a few minutes. Definitely a high point for me as an avid viewer of Dragon's Den (and he was a firm favourite of mine).

It was such an amazing experience, and so interesting to meet some of the other loan recipients there and find out what they had done with their loans. There are some seriously talented young people in our country and this scheme is brilliant for harnessing that skill, enthusiasm and potential.

Even better, the event was also to celebrate the funding having an additional £34m added to it, and opening it up to over 30's. Initially the schemes were for young entrepreneurs aged 18-24, and then up to 30, but now it's being extended to all ages which is brilliant (I was only just young enough when it was 18-30!).

We were also very pleased to have an article published in the Bristol Post about this, which can be viewed here: http://www.bristolpost.co.uk/Fancy-dress-leads-way-10/story-19840152-detail/story.html
