Party theme - the A - Z party theme and what you can go as

Popular party theme now is throwing a party based around a certain letter (or letters!) of the alphabet. We mentioned it in our 'Party Themes' blog earlier this month, but it's so popular, we think it deserves a blog series of it's own!

Often it's the initial(s) of a birthday girl or guy, or sometimes it's random, depending on what the party is for! But this kind of theme is becoming increasingly popular, and we're always getting calls from people asking for ideas!

The frustrating thing is, you'd think that some of the more common letters would be easy peasy to think of something great to dress up as, but we've found when it comes to it, you're more than often stumped, especially if you want to try and be original, even if the answer is staring you right in the face! So we decided it might be a fun idea to write a series of blogs, based on each letter, listing loads of ideas. We also have a list in our shop for anyone who pops in or phones us, so we're ready to help! We're adding to the lists all the time, as we think of more, and if you have any to add, make sure you pop a comment on our posts with your suggestions!

If you're planning to throw a letter-themed party, why not pop the website address of our blog on your invites so your party goers can easily find something to match your theme?

Party Theme Ideas Series (part 1)

Party Theme Ideas will be something we'll blog about a lot over the coming months.... and years! There are always new ideas for a great party, so for our April (1st!) edition of Party Theme Ideas, here are a few to get you started!

Letter of the Alphabet Party

This is a great idea for someone's birthday using their initials. For example, for a friend's birthday a few years ago, all guests had to come dressed as something beginning with a K, a V or a W - her initials.

The results were brilliant and it was interesting to see how inventive people had been... and how much the tried to stretch it to come as something they could manage! We had a Viking, Knight, Wench, miss Kitty, KISS, Where's Wally, Wonderwoman, Amy Winehouse... and so many more!

Decades
Decades will always be popular, with 60's, 70's and 80's themes being brilliant, but it works so much better if they are relevent to the party itself, or have a twist!

So the party could be based on the year the person was born for a party (so for a 30th birthday this year, a 1982 party would be brilliant!), or the year a couple were married. Rather than classic 80's costumes, by choosing a specific year, you get people thinking and some more creative ideas based on the Press that year, Film and TV and music charts.

Or making the decades film about something specific, such as 80's Film and TV (always going to be a good one!) of 70's music can help set the mood. A big screen showing music videos or films to match would really help set the theme for this kind of event.

New Year - why not try basing it on the News?

New Year is always a time for reflection on the past year, so why not base the theme for a New Year's party on this? This was the theme for the last New Year party we went to and it was a great success. With news about the Royal Wedding, Amy Winehouse and Michael Jackson dying, Russel Brand and Katy Perry splitting up, and so much more, people got really inventive with their outfits and it was a great ice breaker for those who'd never met discussing what they had come as!

Hollywood/Oscars party
These are great because you can do so much title the d├ęcor, and entertainment! And it is a theme that poeple can get really into, basing their outfits on their favourite films, or just getting glammed up for those who're not into fancy dress.

An Awards ceremony is a nice touch, so would work especially well for birthdays, company chirstmas parties and the like, plus provides great entertainment for the evening and keeps the guests in the theme.
